Remakes and Originals: THE PLANET OF THE APES and RISE OF THE PLANET APES

Remakes and Originals:   THE PLANET OF THE APES and RISE OF THE PLANET APES The Planet of the Apes Planet of the Apes is a Hollywood science fiction film  produced and distributed by 20th Century Fox  and released internationally 1968. This first instalment was directed by Franklin J. Schaffner. The film is set in the year 3955 in a dystopian future where humans have been enslaved by hyper-intelligent apes. Planet of the Apes uses prosthetics and makeup to achieve their special effects as computer generated technology had not yet begun to reach its full potential. In the UK,  Planet of the Apes  received a certificate of PG. This is most likely due to the themes and portrayal of human slavery and some scenes of blood and violence. However, if this was to be released in modern cinema it will most likely receive a higher rating of 12A due to its distressing imagery which could upset younger viewers. The film was released in all UK theatres at the time,...

The Theory of Films

The Importance of The Director  The director of a film is one of the most essential parts of the movie-making process. In modern cinema, the director usually has the most input on the films tone, pacing and overall themes. If the director has either adapted their own property into film (Quentin Tarantino: Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction/ Edgar Wright: Hot Fuzz, Baby Driver) or have based their material on other existing properties, but have adapted them enough to be classified as a product of their own (Francis Ford Coppola's adaptation of Heart's of Darkness, Apocalypse Now/ Brian De Palma's 1983 remake of Scarface), these directors can be referred to as 'Auteur Directors', as they are considered the authors of the story they have put into film.  Many auteur directors have their own method and style to film making. While Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception) focuses on telling his narratives through a realistic and believable world, similar to our o...

The Purpose ACT!ON is a film magazine designed to appeal to all audiences, through a wide range of articles, spanning from interviews to reviews and information on the latest releases.  The main purpose of this film magazine is to inform while simultaneously entertaining. Due to my initial research people between the ages of 17- 25 are most likely to buy film magazines, therefore in order to achieve maximum sales profit my magazine must appeal to this age demographic. My secondary research showed that people within this age bracket favour action, comedic and horror orientated movies. Due to this study, the action, comedy and horror genres will be the main focus of each months issue, while other genres such as romance and indie films will still be included, they will be smaller segments of magazine content. This could help achieve maximum sales by ...

COMMERCIAL RADIO ADVERT ANALYSIS

Analysis of Commercial Radio Advert Commercial Radio relies on promoting companies and products in order to receive income revenue. Paying ad revenue to a commercial radio can be costly, depending on the location and popularity of the radio itself.  Radio advertising is charged at a rate of approximately £2 per thousand listeners at a time, for example if a radio station has 100,000 listeners at 6pm would cost £200, whereas The Late Show's 10,000 listeners at 11pm would only cost £20. Paying for a time-slot with the highest amount of listeners would be the most beneficial to your company, however the advert must be entertaining in order to attract attention and be worth the price. An article by the journalism company 'Campaign' in 2016 voted on the best commercial radio adverts of the year. Perhaps the most effective advert was the Dove 'Self-Conscious' advert. The advert main theme is ...
